Athlete in training!

Today was a beautiful day in Georgia, and so Bobby, the dog and I went for a long walk. All three of us were walking - no stroller involved. I honestly think we covered at least a mile, and Bobby bounced, ran or walked the whole time! I think he's gonna be a serious athlete! I was worn out after wrangling boy, the dog and the inevitable plastic bag o' poo, but the Boblet proceeded to hop around for another 40 minutes before being wrestled upstairs for a nap.

Where do toddlers get all that energy? The boy doesn't eat much processed sugar, so I can't blame it on the diet. Yeesh.

*snore*...What?? Oh sorry, fell asleep on the keyboard. Guess I should wipe off the tiny bit of drool and go to sleep!

The things we do to get our kids to eat...

Tonight's dinner was Oatmeal Squares, organic dried fruit mix, carrots, and (drum roll please) a peanut butter, chopped spinach and grape jelly sandwich.

Ick. But, Bobby ate it...

A desperate mama is the mother of invention, especially when your toddler refuses every healthy food that he/she used to eat very happily. As long as he'll eat peanut butter, I think I can puree and hide anything in between two slices of bread. All hail the sandwich!

How to figure out the weight of a toddler?

It's harder than it sounds - really! When your toddler is cooperative, sweet and snuggly, the weight is quite manageable. But, when said toddler are fighting your every move (like on a trip upstairs for bedtime), then each limb suddenly weighs as much as the entire child does normally. Go figure... There's got to be some physics or mathematical equation to figure it out. Kinda like the dog-walking corollary that states that "the worse the weather outside is, the longer your dog will take to get focused on the business at hand."

Random byte of the day: "When the chips are down, the buffalo is empty". I saw that on a CafePress.com t-shirt and just laughed :)

'Night.

Photos, we've got stacks and stacks of photos.

Apologies to David Letterman for cribbing his show's "CBS Mailbag" theme for my 247 freshly uploaded photos, 99.9% of which are Bobby-related. My cousin says I've got "New Parent Photo Disorder", and he's right! The photos that don't feature Bobby are either of Spirit the dog, or of me while enormously pregnant.

Anywho, use the handy-dandy navigation links on the right side of this page to look through the best of Bobbyworld's photos. I'm using the Flickr photo service, since after much experimentation it seems to be the best for organizing photos the way I want, rather than the way the software wants.

Toodles :)

Well, here goes!

Wow...I have serious blank paper syndrome right now. I'm usually an editor, not a creator. I haven't written original content since I left my full-time job 2 years ago. But in the interest of communicating with the wider world of friends and family, here goes!

Quick intro, in case anyone who doesn't already know me reads this:

  • I'm 34, from coastal North Carolina, then Indiana, love reading, computers, foreign languages and hate math and housecleaning.
  • I've been married 11 years to Doug (surprise, we have a blog, honey), who's from Indiana.
  • We have a wonderful 2 year old mildly-autistic son, Bobby. He's in occupational and speech therapy and learning sign language. He's very affectionate and a basically happy child. He doesn't talk yet, though.
  • We also have a sweet but messy English Springer Spaniel named Spirit. He's almost 3. So, we essentially have 2 toddlers in the house :)
  • We live near Atlanta, since I don't do snow and cold weather very happily.

'Nuff of that.

I love to read other people's blogs, mostly the slacker-mom variety, so there may be random links in here of that type. I also spend way too much time doing web research on autism, speech delay, special ed and other related stuff that might be of use to Bobby. And I have to admit, I'm addicted to eBay.

This "writing thing" is weird...I usually grab the phone when I want to "reach out and touch someone", but at 1 am, the voice at the other end might not be too pleased.

OK. Time to post this and see if I look like a blithering idiot. G'night!
